About Sharon

Sharon Shropshire is a native of Atlanta, Georgia and has been a proud resident of East Point for more than 35 years. She completed her education in the Atlanta Public School System and has had the pleasure of working in various capacities during the span of her career, including the Federal Government where she is currently employed.

Prior to being elected in 2013 as the Ward A At-Large Representative, Councilmember Shropshire spent over a decade fighting to improve the lives of all East Point residents. Her diligence in public service and serving on several boards in the City led to Councilmember Shropshire establishing a strong track record as a spokesperson and well-recognized advocate for residents. Having built a long record of success in advocacy coupled with her dedication to community, Councilmember Shropshire is recognized as one who intently listens to her constituents and put words to action. This has allowed her to develop an inherent knowledge and understanding of East Point and its potential to be among the ranks of the best places to live in America.

The National League of Cities appointed Councilmember Shropshire to serve on the Public Safety and Crime Prevention Committee where she has served since 2014. For the past four years, Councilmember Shropshire has represented the City of East Point on the National League of Cities Small Cities Committee that addresses the most pressing issues facing America’s cities, towns, and villages.

Councilmember Shropshire was previously voted by her peers to serve three terms as Mayor Pro-tem. This community servant is seeking re-election for a third term as the East Point Council Ward A At-Large representative to continue working in collaboration with residents and stakeholders to advance the great City of East Point.

Councilmember Shropshire’s Select Accomplishments:

  • Advocated for intelligent spending to reduce debt and maintain a balanced budget.
  • Initiated higher tax on property owners with abandoned housing to reduce blight.
  • Supported extension of utilities to prevent shutoffs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Sponsored a public private partnership that allows police officers to live in a high crime apartment complex rent free to help reduce criminal activity.
  • Led efforts to ensure the majority of East Point streets are included in the upcoming Fulton County T-SPLOST.
  • Created the “Clean City Initiative” to provide lawn service to eligible senior citizens and disabled residents to promote health and safety.
  • Introduced a resolution to enact the Crown Act passed by United State Congress (2019-2020) that prohibits the denial of employment and educational opportunities based on hair texture.
  • Facilitated installation of cameras in the park, to address tagging, and graffiti while deterring other criminal activity.
  • Spearheaded the Street Racing Ordinance to stop street racing in East Point.
